Built for Practical, Everyday Cutting Performance
The BEFCO Tornado RMD rotary cutters are engineered for landowners and operators who want dependable performance for routine land maintenance. Designed for 35–80 HP tractors, these medium-duty cutters provide reliable operation for mowing pasture grass, clearing weeds, and managing light brush—much like a professional-grade tractor rotary cutter or medium-duty brush hog. They serve as a practical cutting solution for farms, rural properties, and open fields.
Each unit in the RMD series is crafted for users who want smoother, cleaner cuts with minimal adjustment. These agricultural rotary cutters combine practical engineering with durable construction, making them a smart choice for consistent field mowing and day-to-day land management tasks.
Adjustable Cutting Height: 1″ to 9 1/4″ – Offers precise mowing control for pasture management, field mowing, and general land clearing, making it ideal for variable terrain and vegetation density.
Replaceable Heavy-Duty Skids – Reinforced side skids protect the deck while allowing smooth gliding over uneven ground, extending the life of this tractor rotary cutter.
Highly Engineered, Rugged Gearbox – Built for demanding agricultural use, the gearbox delivers consistent torque and durability for medium-duty brush hog and field maintenance applications.
Heavy-Duty Shielded PTO Shaft with Slip Clutch (1 3/8″ ASAE Cat. 4) – Provides advanced driveline protection against shock loads and hidden obstacles, essential for safe and efficient PTO mower operation.
Category 1, 3-Point Linkage – Ensures quick hitch compatibility and secure attachment to compact and utility tractors between 35–80 HP.
Exceptionally Heavy-Duty 1/2″ x 4″ Spring Steel Blades – High-carbon, flexible blades deliver superior cutting strength for grass, weeds, and light brush, maximizing performance in tough land management conditions.
2″ Cutting Capacity – Designed to handle heavier vegetation and light brush clearing, making it suitable for pasture renovation and agricultural rotary cutter tasks.
High Blade Tip Speed – Produces cleaner, more precise cuts while improving discharge and reducing clumping during heavy-grass mowing.
Laminated Tail Wheel (4″ x 8″ x 15″) with Tapered Roller Bearings – Enhances stability and smooth travel across rough terrain, providing consistent cutting height for any field or acreage.
Oval Heavy-Duty Stump Jumper Standard – Helps the rotary cutter glide over stumps, rocks, and ground irregularities, reducing impact and protecting the blade carrier and gearbox.
Reinforced 8-Gauge Steel Deck – Built to withstand demanding field conditions, offering long-lasting strength and resistance to impact during brush cutting and pasture mowing.
Front & Rear Protective Chain Shields – Standard safety chains help control debris discharge, making this farm rotary cutter safer for roadside, field, and property maintenance.
Floating Top Link – Enhances ground contour following, improving cut quality and ensuring smoother operation across uneven or sloped surfaces.
With its reinforced 8-gauge deck, high-tip-speed blades, and rugged gearbox, the BEFCO Tornado RMD Rotary Cutter delivers cleaner cuts, smoother mowing, and dependable vegetation control in demanding field conditions. Its 1/2″ x 4″ spring steel blades, 2″ cutting capacity, and adjustable 1″–9 1/4″ cutting height allow it to handle grass, weeds, and light brush with ease—making it ideal for pastures, acreage, roadsides, and year-round land-maintenance work.

Yes. The key to using a rotary cutter effectively is to maintain a steady ground speed, keep the PTO at the correct 540 rpm, and set the cutting height based on field conditions. Operators should overlap each pass slightly, avoid turning sharply with the cutter lowered, and always engage the PTO at low RPM to protect the driveline. Regularly checking blades, gearbox oil, and stump jumper clearance also helps ensure smoother cutting and longer equipment life.
A stump jumper protects the gearbox and blades from impacts. It allows the cutter to glide over stumps, rocks, and ground obstacles—reducing shock loads, improving safety, and extending the life of the rotary cutter.
The main difference between 540 PTO and 1000 PTO is the shaft speed and power output. A 540 PTO runs at 540 revolutions per minute and is used on most compact and utility tractors. It’s ideal for implements like rotary cutters, tillers, and post-hole diggers that don’t require extremely high horsepower.
A 1000 PTO runs at 1000 revolutions per minute and is found on larger, high-horsepower tractors. It delivers more power and is used for heavy-duty implements such as large mowers, forage harvesters, balers, and commercial-grade tillage tools.
In simple terms:
Using the correct PTO speed is crucial—running an implement at the wrong PTO RPM can damage the implement, tractor, or driveline.
